Polman Minerals is proud to carry this new line of ultraviolet lamps made by Way Too Cool. Way Too Cool is a Phoenix based company started by Mr. Bill Gardner in 1998. Bill's intensive research into ultraviolet lamps, filters and electrical components has produced one of the finest lines of ultraviolet lamps for the mineral hobby. During Bill's research and development phase, Polman Minerals offered several suggestions to improve the design with emphasis on the mineral collectors needs. The most important suggestion was to design multiple wavelength lamps, independently switched, providing any combination of wavelengths needed. These multi-wavelength lamps are available in small 9-watt models for home and field use, or up to larger 60-watt models for display use.

9-Watt Shortwave, Midrange & Longwave

These models can be configured with either shortwave only, midrange only, longwave only or any combination. These models use Philips bulbs. Philips uses a patented technology to provide more UV output throughout the life of the bulb. On multiple wavelength models, each bulb is individually switched, for any combination of use. These models come standard with 110-volt AC power, but can be ordered to run on a 12-volt DC power supply. These models feature a black plastic case, large easy to hold plastic handle, four rubber feet, filter guard and toggle switches.

The 9-watt bulbs in these lamps are rated for approximately 3,300 on/off cycles, based on a 9-watt ballast. These lamps are being driven with a 13-watt ballast, which slightly overdrives the bulbs and provides significantly more UV output. As a result of this, the life of the bulbs will be reduced by approximately 10%.

Note: The ballast in these lamps are designed for 60 hertz (60 cycles per second). If you plan on using these lamps with an AC 110/220 volt step down transformer, you must use one that provides 60 hertz. If you require these lamps to be used where there is only 220-volt power, then it is best to order the 12-volt model and a converter. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this requirement.

The single wavelength model is 7.5 x 4.5 x 2.5-inches. The filter glass is 1.25 x 5-inches. The dual model is
8 x 6 x 3-inches. The filter glass for each wavelength 1.25 x 5-inches. The triple model is 8 x 6 x 3-inches. The shortwave filter glass is 2.75 x 5-inches. The longwave filter glass is 1.25 x 5-inches. The handle for each lamp adds an additional 2.5 inches in height.

These models can be configured with either shortwave only, midrange only, longwave only or all three wavelengths. There currently is not a dual wavelength option available. These models use Philips bulbs. Philips uses a patented technology to provide more UV output throughout the life of the bulb. On the triple wavelength model, each bulb is individually switched, for any combination of use. These models come standard with 110-volt AC power, but the shortwave and triple wavelength models can be ordered to run on a 12-volt DC power supply. The triple wavelength model feature a black plastic case, large easy to hold plastic handle, four rubber feet, filter guard and toggle switches. The single wavelength units feature a black metal housing, large easy to hold plastic handle, four rubber feet, filter guard and toggle switches.

The single wavelength model is 15.25 x 3 x 3.25-inches and weighs 4 pounds. The filter glass is 1.75 x 7.75-inches. The triple wavelength model is 10.25 x 7.25 x 3.75-inches and weighs 5.5 pounds. The shortwave filter glass is 8 x 4-inches. The longwave filter glass is 8 x 2-inches. The handle for each lamp adds an additional 2.5 inches in height.

This model can be configured with either shortwave and longwave, shortwave only (72-watts), longwave only (72-watts) or midrange only (72-watts). This model can also be configured with 60-watt bulbs. This model use Philips bulbs. Philips uses patented technology to provide more UV output throughout the life of the bulb. On dual wavelength models, each bulb is individually switched. These models come standard with 110 volt AC power (custom order for 230-volt). This model is 18 x 4 x 4-inches, with the handle adding an additional 2.5 inches in height. The filter glass for a 72-watt unit is 4 x 16-inches. Each filter glass for a dual wavelength model is 2x16 inches. The models using 60-watt bulbs have a stronger fan unit which adds an additional 1.25 inches to the lamps length.

Shortwave Display Lamp (36, 60, 95 & 190-watt)

This model looks similar to the 72-watt model pictured above. This model uses a 36, 60, 95 or (2) 95-watt Philips bulbs. Philips uses patented technology to provide more UV output throughout the life of the bulb. This model features a universal input ballast that runs on 110 or 230 volt (230 volt model does require a different fan unit). The 36 and 60-watt model is 4-inches tall x 4-inches wide x 18-inches long. The 95-watt model is 4-inches tall x 4 inches wide by 24-inches long. The 190-watt model is 5-inches tall x 5-inches wide x 24-inches long. The handle for all models adds an additional 2.5 inches in height. The filter glass for the 36 and 60-watt models is 2 x 16-inches. The filter glass for the 95-watt model is 3 1/8 x 19 5/8-inches. The filter glass for the 190-watt model is 4 x 19 5/8-inches.

This model is configured with either three 36 or 60-watt bulbs (combinations available also). The longwave and shortwave bulbs are manufactured by Philips. Philips uses patented technology to provide more UV output throughout the life of the bulb. The midrange bulb is custom made. Each bulb is individually switched, providing any combination of wavelength needed. This model comes standard with 110 volt power (custom order for 230 volt). This model is 19 x 8.5 x 4.5-inches, with the handle adding an additional 2.5 inches in height. The lamp weighs 9 pounds. The shortwave filter glass is 15.75 x 3.75-inches. The longwave filter glass is 15.75 x 1.75-inches.     Price $65.00

This manufacturing option places all the display lamp switches in an external box. The box is then mounted along the power cord. This option is ideal for display cases where the lamp is mounted inside the case, with no easy access to the on/off switches. The switch box distance from the lamp can be produced to meet your specific design requirements.
